Uncommon Wisdom: Mila Vladislavova

“Uncommon Wisdom” is about sharing those habits or stories that we wouldn’t normally think to share. There’s so much talk about morning routines and self-care practices these days but a lot of it can seem kind of superficial or maybe just predictable and repetitive.

This is why we asked a bunch of high-performing creatives and entrepreneurs a few questions about awareness, energy, and productivity. We wanted to learn something a bit more unexpected, and here’s what we found out.

Who is Mila Vladislavova?

Mila is a rebel at heart, mother of two under two, and freelance interior designer. Constantly searching for meaning and purpose in this adventure called life.

#1. What's something unexpected or uncommon that made you more aware?

A few years ago I was in a traumatic relationship that totally changed my lifestyle. In the end I felt nothing like myself, had lost almost all of my friends, and was just unsatisfied with my life. I was really miserable. Luckily, I woke up one morning and a sudden realization hit me – I’m allowed to leave. That was the moment I felt aware of who I was and where I want to be. Setting myself free from my own expectations was the best thing I’ve done for myself ever since.

#2. What's something unexpected or uncommon that gives you energy?

Change is the only thing that keeps my energy levels high. When I feel somehow lost or down, I always seek for something to change – it could be the place, the people or my own perspective. That usually helps me to see things from a different angle and it also boosts my energy.

#3. What's something unexpected or uncommon that makes you more productive?

Deadlines make me productive! Sometimes I find it really hard to find the inner motivation to do whatever needs to be done, and that’s why I always set a deadline to every task. I try really hard not to fail myself.

#4. What does your morning ritual look like?

Being a mother of two kids under two years old makes it really hard to follow a routine. But now it’s actually more important than ever to stick to something that helps me feel more like myself, even when my life is constantly changing. I’ve been following an online home fitness program for the past 6 years, and that’s definitely one of my morning “musts”. Doesn’t matter if the night was sleepless, I just start my day with moving my body. I also use this time to go through my daily tasks in my head to make sure I have a plan to follow. Then I take a shower, eat my breakfast, drink my coffee, and I’m ready to take whatever the day has to offer.

#5. What does your evening ritual look like?

Every night I prepare food for my family and we have dinner together. This is a really important time for me as it’s the only time we sit together during the day. Dinner is followed by some play time with the kids and getting them ready for bed. When they’re finally asleep, I spend some precious time with my partner – discussing new plans and ideas, or just watching a movie while cuddling on the sofa. It’s a crucial ritual for our relationship. When I go to bed, I close my eyes and take a minute to express my gratitude for everything I have in my life. Then I go through my next day plan in my head, and I fall asleep.
