“Uncommon Wisdom” is about sharing those habits or stories that we wouldn’t normally think to share. There’s so much talk about morning routines and self-care practices these days but a lot of it can seem kind of superficial or maybe just predictable and repetitive.
This is why we asked a bunch of high-performing creatives and entrepreneurs a few questions about awareness, energy, and productivity. We wanted to learn something a bit more unexpected, and here’s what we found out.
Who is Mirella Yordanova?
Mirella very recently joined Seedcamp, an exciting seed-stage venture capital fund with an HQ in London.
Before this new endeavour, she was actively supporting the Bulgarian and CEE-based companies in LAUNCHub’s portfolio. Her work there was all about contributing to all the different aspects of deal flow from sourcing to screening and evaluating new investment opportunities.
In her diverse and impressive experience, she was also serving as a Community Engagement Manager at Google for Startups in London where she was focused on accelerating startups through education and fostering connections between investors and founders by developing high-impact programs. Working with Google has allowed Mirella to connect with founders globally and across the UK, Asia, Europe, and CEE.
#1. What's something unexpected or uncommon that made you more aware?
“Your inbox is nothing more than someone else’s to do list”. I still remember the first time I heard this statement. It made me so much more aware regarding my work. Being a zero inbox professional this statement really opened my eyes on what’s actually important for my productivity. I never start my day with emails. I focus on what’s truly core to my job and then get around to my inbox.
#2. What's something unexpected or uncommon that gives you energy?
I never considered myself a person who can take a break when things are on fire. I always would have preferred to push through. However, I’ve come to realise this is not sustainable – we need to take a break in order to take a breath. When I was working in an office, just a simple going up and down the fire escape to get some fresh air would do the trick. Now I go around the neighbourhood for 5-10min, and it’s pure magic.
#3. What's something unexpected or uncommon that makes you more productive?
In this new “working from home” reality it really helps me to have specific areas in the house for different tasks. For example, I always take my calls outside in the garden, I do emails while standing at the kitchen counter, and I do my focused work at the dining table.
#4. What does your morning ritual look like?
Me time. Whatever this means for me that day. I can’t stick to a specific routine, so I try to listen to what my mind and my body need that morning. Sometimes it’s yoga or a nice walk, other times it’s immersing myself in the book I am currently reading. On other occasions, I need to just open my laptop and get stuff done. What matters to me is listening to my body and having no judgment.
#5. What does your evening ritual look like?
“Digital detox” is my evening diet. Going off grid for a few hours before I go to sleep is a must for me.
